In a new book entitle “A Safe Haven: Harry S. Truman and the Founding of the State of Israel”, author Ron Radosh discusses President Truman's role in the U.S. recognizing the new state despite resistance from the Defense and State Departments, the Arabs, and the British who controlled the region at that time.

The book theorizes about how Israel’s history would have been different had Truman not become President. It also describes the former president’s handling of the Arabs who insisted that the only acceptable solution was to have Jews live as a minority in an Arab state.
