A note found in a bottle hidden inside an Auschwitz wall hints at the story of six Christians and a Jew whose cooperation helped at least some of them survive the Nazis. The Jewish survivor, Albert Veissid, tells the full story.

Workers demolishing the wall of a building outside the Nazis’ Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp last week found a message in a bottle written by prisoners 65 years ago. Six Christians included their Jewish friend on the list, apparently in appreciation of the risks he took for them.
