The cabinet will discuss on Sunday morning its proposed two year budget, with the budget said to be rife with cuts. Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, who prepared the budget together with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and other advisors, will attempt to ensure that the budget remains "under control," in the face of demands by the opposition – and by the Labor Party – to increase the framework of the budget and spend more on social needs.
Steinitz said that preventing an increase in the deficit was one of his top goals, despite the recession, which has cut the government's income. Labor, on the other hand, is demanding that the government fulfill all the commitments the party said were made to it during coalition negotiations, among them increasing money for the elderly, workers, the unemployed, and other weak social groups.
