Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Chief Rabbi of Tzfat and son of former Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, blessed Israel on the eve of its 61st Independence Day on Tuesday. He called the day a fulfillment of the Bible’s prophecies, while noting that there is still much room for improvement to the State.
“We see the hand of God on Independence Day, we see the fulfillment of the words of the prophets coming true,” he said. “But we are still in the beginning. The Disengagement from Gush Katif is an example of the State making a mistake.”
