The United States is reconsidering its planned boycott of the ‘Durban II’ UN racism conference, which Israel and Jewish groups have opposed to due to the previous conference’s anti-Israel statements. “We hope that these remaining concerns will be addressed so that the United States can reengage the conference process with the hope of arriving at a conference document that we can support,” State Department spokesman Robert Wood said in a statement on Monday.
The announcement came as the Obama administration is reviewing its policy with Iran. The official news agency of Iran announced that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would attend the World Conference against Racism in Geneva on April 20-25. The U.S. previously announced in February that it would not attend the conference unless all references to Israel and racism would be dropped from its final document.
