Despite ongoing Israeli attempts to pressure Russia not to sell their S-300 air defense missile system to Iran, Israeli defense sources say the efforts have only produced vague promises. Israel’s agreement last week to sell weapons and unmanned drones to Russia was conditioned on the S-300 system not being sold to Iran, the sources revealed. The missile batteries could be used by Iran to defend their nuclear plants in case of an air strike by Israel.

Defense sources told Walla they are unsure if in fact Russia has fully commited to not selling to Iran. Recent conflicting statements from Moscow have contributed to the lack of clarity of the S-300’s sale which is reportedly for 800 million dollars.
