Palestinian Authority envoy to Russia Afif Safieh recently wrote a letter to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas criticizing the PA leadership and lack of a political opposition. The letter was leaked by the Jerusalem Post.
Safieh sent the letter shortly after Abbas informed him that he would be fired, effective in three weeks time. In the letter, he stated that, “the Palestinians deserve a better leadership and the Palestinians also don't have the type of opposition they need.” He also defended himself against charges of supporting Hamas and wasting time at cultural events.
