Wurud Kassem of the Israeli Arab town of Tira, was sentenced Monday to six years in prison for her role in a terrorist plot. The 22-year-old woman admitted under a plea bargain to assisting an enemy in wartime and making contact with a foreign agent.
Kassem told the court was recruited by Palestinian Authority terrorist Mohammed Yakoub, a member of the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades terror cell affiliated with Fatah. Kassem agreed to smuggle weapons into Israel and scout out sites for a possible bombing attack.
During a later meeting, Kassem refused to bring a bomb into Israel but suggested that Yakoub target a restaurant in Raanana where here cousin worked. The cousin offered to help carry out an attack. Kassem spoke about the plot to a social worker, who contacted police. Those involved were arrested, and Yakoub was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
