Israel’s Histadrut Labor Organization threatened Sunday to announce a labor dispute at Jerusalem’s Bikur Holim hospital. The Histadrut is opposed to a non-profit organization managed by the hospital. The NPO’s plan is to reform the financially strapped hospital by firing 70 of the 650 workers and cutting salaries by 20 percent.
The Histadrut said that the proposal contradicts a contract signed between them and the hospital five years ago. The Histadrut additionally stated that the NPO decided to reduce its expenses after business tycoon Arkady Gaydamak stopped funding the hospital this past October.
