Since Operation ‘Cast Lead’ ended, 45 tons of material for manufacturing weapons has been smuggled into Gaza, according to Israel Securities Administration (Shabak) head Yuval Diskin, who announced his findings at Sunday’s Security Cabinet meeting. He also mentioned that Hamas is trying to put an end to Kassam rocket attacks on Israel and he estimates that Hamas is not interested in an escalation of warfare.
According to Diskin, since the IDF finished its military operation in Gaza, 22 tons of explosive devices, dozens of anti-tank and anti-plane missiles and hundreds of Kassam rockets have been smuggled into Gaza. Diskin added, “When there is information, the Egyptian response is helpful. However, there is still no absolute cessation of smuggling. Neither has the international community succeeded to formulate a program to prevent smuggling.”
