Knesset Member Afou Agbaria (Hadash) criticized on Sunday the recommendations of the Justice Minister and head of prison services to reduce conditions of security prisoners held in Israeli prisons.
“I am not surprised of the intent to harshen the conditions of the Palestinian prisoners, who without this do not live under the circumstances of a five-star hotel,” he said. “When the United States accepts a bold decision to close its prison in Guantanamo, Israel continues to act like thugs and not like a country ruled by law.”
A preliminary report of the Justice Ministry recommends, among other things, to reduce visitation rights of Arab security prisoners’ families to the minimum, to remove from them rights to view radio and television broadcasts or receiving newspapers, and to cease allowing them educational opportunities, such as studying towards a college degree.
