Sixteen leading international judges and investigators have called for an “independent and impartial” investigation of alleged war crimes committed by Israel and Hamas in the recent Israeli counterterrorist campaign in Gaza. They wrote United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, "Without setting the record straight in a credible and impartial manner, it will be difficult for those communities that have borne the heavy cost of violence to move beyond the terrible aftermath of conflict.”
Among the signatories of the letter are Richard Goldstone, former chief prosecutor of Yugoslavia and Rwanda, and Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
