French President Nicolas Sarkozy has named a special envoy to Afghanistan to help that nation and Pakistan in their fight against the Islamist Taliban insurgents.
The new apointee, Pierre Lellouche, is a member of Sarkozy's ruling UMP party. He is also a specialist in international affairs, according to the Associated Press.
