The U.S. intends to grant $900 million in humanitarian and restoration aid to Gaza, an official stated Monday. The statement was made in light of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s first diplomatic visit to the Middle East in March.
The official added that the aid would not go to Hamas. Clinton announced that she will attend a conference in Cairo addressing Gaza’s civilian situation. Israeli officials, meanwhile, stated that Clinton will meet with Israel’s top leaders during her Mid-East visit.
Yasser Abed Rabbo, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said Clinton also would visit Judea and Samaria during her stay.
