President Shimon Peres admits that the pullout from Gaza was mistaken. Speaking at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Wednesday, Peres sees himself “as one of the people who were wrong. We should have done things differently.”

The President’s Office later clarified that President Peres did not intend that he was against the expulsion of Jews from Gaza. He rather was opposed to the way that it was carried out, including the lack of coordination with the Palestinian Authority at the time.

The President also did not indicate which candidate would be best suited for forming the next coalition government. “Considering the results of the recent Israeli elections, the issue is not just who will head the next government or who the ministers would be, but what Israel’s future policies will be,” Peres stated.
