Diaspora Affairs Minister and Knesset Member Yitzchak Herzog (Labor) related Wednesday morning to post-election coalition developments in Israel, stating that his party will not recommend either Kadima’s Livni or Likud’s Netanyahu to form the next coalition government.
“Labor will decide whether to recommend Livni for the post of Prime Minister, or to remain neutral. As of now, I believe we will lean toward neutrality,” Minister Herzog told Jewish leaders at the Conference of Presidents in Jerusalem. “I believe the process will take weeks until we see the formation of a coalition,” Herzog added.
President Shimon Peres will begin his consultations Wednesday evening with all of the Knesset factions with the goal of determining which Knesset member will be given the opportunity to form the next coalition government. The consultations will begin after the Central Elections Committee, led by Supreme Court Justice Eliezer Rivlin, presents President Peres with the official election results.
