Officials in the Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel is Our Home) stated that the party is interested in either a post in the Ministry of Defense or Foreign Affairs in negotiations to join a coalition. This is in addition to the demands which the third largest party brought to the Kadima leader Tzipi Livni and Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu.
In addition, Yisrael Beiteinu’s chair, Avigdor Lieberman, hinted that he did not recommend any candidate to President Shimon Peres to form the next government. In addition, Lieberman brought his demands to the attention of both Livni and Netanyahu, including Yisrael Beiteinu’s requirement not to negotiate with terrorist organizations, to introduce a bill of citizenship to only those who display their loyalty, to allow civil marriage, and to separate State and Religion.
Yisrael Beiteinu received 15 seats in last Tuesday’s Knesset elections, making it the third largest party. In addition, they are expected to be a key player due to their party size in forming a coalition government.
