The Committee of Jewish Residents of Samaria and Binyamin called Thursday on Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi to act against a decision by Defense Minister Ehud Barak to remove checkpoints from Judea and Samaria.

The committee said that by virtue of the decision, "Ehud Barak is gambling with the lives of Jewish settlers." A statement by the committee added, "The removal of the checkpoints during these days, marked by a rise in Arab terrorism on the roads of Judea and Samaria, is a lawless act."
