Aliyah from Turkey to Israel is expected to more than double this year as Turkish Jews flee increasing anti-Semitism, according to Jewish Agency official Eli Cohen. More than 250 Jews from the predominantly Muslim country are expected to arrive in Israel this year, compared with 112 last year.
Jewish Agency officials are hopeful that a similar change will take place in Venezuela, where a Caracas synagogue attacked last week and where the government expelled the Israeli ambassador. The attack on the house of worship prevented Jews from praying in the building last Sabbath.
