In 2008, 314 organs were donated in Israel for transplant, the largest number in the 15-year history of the National Transplant Center, according to figures released on Tuesday. Israel saw 279 transplant operations during the course of the year. 58 of the donors were living.
473,000 Israelis have signed organ-donor cards. News first class reports that while the number of transplants rose during the year, the number of those waiting for organs also rose.
There was a rise in integrated operations during the year. The authors of the report cited the example of replacing a kidney as well as the liver that was adversely affecting it.
