The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is being pressured to drop its ban on broadcasting an appeal for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), a coalition of 13 agencies hoping to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza residents after the end of Israel's counterterrorist war against the Hamas terrorists who rule the region. Hundreds of people have demonstrated against the broadcaster's decision outside the studios of the BBC in London.
Until this point, the BBC has refused to broadcast an appeal by the DEC, saying it would compromise its neutrality in coverage of the war. "The most important thing we can do for the people who are suffering is carrying on reporting it and we've done exemplary work in reporting the suffering of the people of Gaza," said BBC chief operating officer Caroline Thomson on Saturday.
