Two counselors at the Makor Chaim yeshiva killed two terrorists who infiltrated into the yeshiva and began attacking students with knives. "This could have ended a lot worse," one IDF officer in the Central Command said. The yeshiva was filled with more than 200 students.

The counselors were meeting in the yeshiva library when the two terrorists, dressed in black uniforms, burst into the room and ordered everyone to raise their hands and stand against the wall. The terrorists stabbed two students before the counselors immediately drew their personal handguns and killed the terrorists on the spot. The students are recovering from light to moderate wounds.

Archaeological excavations being carried out in the City of David (Ir David), near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, uncovered what is said to be one of the most impressive finds in the site: a magnificent terraced street from the Herodian era, which served pilgrims and extended 600 meters from the Shiloah (Siloam) Pool to the Temple. The storefronts and the splendid appearance of the remains have led researchers to conclude it was Jerusalem's main street in the Second Temple era.

--The Knesset House Committee voted to accept President Moshe Katzav's request to suspend himself from duties temporarily, and Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik now is acting President. The vote was 13-11 following an hour recess called by committee chairman Ruhama Abraham (Kadima), who failed to convince the members to reach a consensus.
