Channel One will be starting the first news program in Amharic for Ethiopian immigrants to Israel. Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia.

Head of the Broadcasting Authority, Motti Shklar, explained that Ethopians who speak only Amharic have few options in Israeli television. The new program is intended to help fill that need.
