Rainfall in December was only half the usual amount as Israel's water resources continued to diminish. Statistics also show that the month was slightly warmer than usual. The northern hills received 8-12 centimeters (3-5 inches) of rain, approximately two-thirds the usual amount for the month, while rainfall along the northern coast measured 7-11 centimeters, 50-75 percent of the normal amount.
The central coast enjoyed nearly average amounts of rain, while the southern coast and Judean mountains and the Negev suffered from as little as 25 percent of the seasonal average.
