French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and asked him to put pressure on Hamas to reach a cease fire with Israel. He said that Hamas must cease all rocket fire at Israel.
Assad responded that there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He also said that Israel’s actions constitute a war crime.
