Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and the foreign ministers of several Arab countries will head to New York on Friday in order to participate in a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Syria and Saudi Arabia are expected to send representatives to the meeting.

The meeting could take place on Friday night, but may be postponed in order to allow the Arab representatives to arrive. Arab and Muslim countries hope to pressure the UN into adopting a resolution criticizing Israel for its “Cast Lead” operation against Hamas in Gaza.
