Power Outage Caused by Ashdod Plant

Tens of thousands of Israelis were without power Sunday morning when a device that receives gas at Ashdod’s Eshkol Power Plant malfunctioned.

As a result of the malfunction, customers in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa, and other areas were without electricity. Since electricity cannot be stored, the main computer that operates the power plant shut down the electrical supply to several centers throughout Israel in order to preserve stability between production and electrical usage.

According to the Israel Electric Company, the problem is being addressed and areas that are still experiencing a power outage will be hooked-up within the next half hour.
