The nationalist HaTivkah and Moledet parties agreed on Thursday to run together in the February Knesset elections. Moledet is leaving the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) party following the 17th-place positioning of Moledet chairman Rabbi MK Benny Elon on its list of Knesset candidates.

Elon welcomed the merger but said that he would not run for re-election, and is retiring from public life.
