Thieves broke into the Holon branch of the Yad Sarah organization last week, stealing money that was to be used to purchase meals for poor families who in the local Yad Sarah-sponsored soup kitchen, medical equipment, and several computers.
Volunteers said that the theft of the computers made their job of distributing medical supplies, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and life-saving equipment more difficult and time consuming, because the forms now had to be filled out by hand. The Holon branch is one of the organization's most active, serving 9,000 residents. Many of the city's elderly are hooked up to the office with "hotline" buzzers installed in their homes, to be used if they have a medical emergency.
