Hazan Asks for Retrial in Double Voting Case

Former Member of Knesset Yechiel Hazan petitioned the Supreme Court on Sunday for a retrial on his 2006 conviction for double voting. Hazan's petition follows last month's revelation of a videotape that shows Ronnie Bar-On doing the same thing - casting his own electronic vote, as well as that of Knesset member whose seat was empty.

After he filed the petition, Hazan told reporters, "I paid a heavy price for my conviction in the double voting case, while MK Ronnie Bar-On sits on the committee for removing my immunity and knows that he himself cast a double vote." He added that he hoped that the court would see the tape and exonerate him.

Last week, he asked the police to investigate Bar-On and former Finance Committee chairman Yaakov Litzman. Hazan is running Monday for a spot on the Likud ticket in the February Knesset election.
