(IsraelNN.com) Haaretz journalist Amira Hass was among a group of foreign activists that landed in Gaza in early November in a challenge to Israeli sovereignty off of the Gaza coast. Hass was recently told to leave Gaza by Hamas. The group informed her it could no longer provide for her security, she said.

During her stay in Gaza Hass was provided with Hamas bodyguards, according to Haaretz. Hass later said she had not requested Hamas protection. Upon leaving Gaza via the Erez crossing on Monday, Hass was detained and questioned.

Hass lived in Gaza for several years. She now lives in Ramallah, which Israelis are forbidden to enter.
