Egyptian officials have met with Hamas leaders in an attempt to convince a halt in terrorist attacks on southern Israel, a move that Israel has said would enable it to allow the re-opening of Gaza crossings. Israel has limited movement of commercial traffic at the crossings to humanitarian shipments.

Hamas has not responded to the request and said it will discuss the issue with terrorist factions in Gaza.
