Yigal Amir, in prison for the murder of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, began a hunger strike Sunday. Amir is protesting the fact that he has been transferred to a maximum security prison and lost the privileges he had formally enjoyed. Prison officials removed his privileges because of telephone interviews Amir conducted with news agencies.
Speaker for the Prisons Services, Yaron Zamir, said that Amir used his privilege of making telephone calls to conduct interviews from prison. He explained that this is against prison policy and therefore Amir's privileges have been revoked.
