IDF Soldier Loses Leg in Mortar Attack

Kassam rocket fire continued over Shabbat. IDF officials reported that three mortar shells were fired overnight Friday at the army base at Kibbutz Nachal Oz. Seven IDF soldiers were wounded in the attack, including Sergeant Noam Nakash, 21, of Beersheba, who lost his right leg in the attack. Doctors operated on him for seven hours, but were unable to save his leg. Another soldier was moderately wounded in the head, and several were hospitalized and later released for lighter injuries.

The attack followed the firing of at least six mortar shells Friday, some of which fell on the grounds of Kibbutz Nirim. In addition, Gaza Arab terrorists fired a rocket at a western Negev kibbutz on Saturday night. No injuries or damage were reported in those attacks.
