Mohammed El-Baradei, head of the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency, said Tuesday that Syria should be considered “innocent until proven guilty.” Baradei made the statement while discussing the IAEA's plans to help Syria create a nuclear power plant—a move some have criticized due to fears that Syria recently attempted to create nuclear weapons.

Baradei compared charges against Syria to United States' officials claims regarding Iraq prior to the U.S. invasion of the country in 2003. “There are claims against Iraq, which proved to be bonkers, but only after a terrible war,” he said.
