A United States Marine chaplain is bringing Jewish servicemen in Iraq closer to religion by hosting meals and holding Jewish events during the continuing war. "Coming here gave me the chance to get back in touch with Judaism," commented Staff Sergeant Randy Howes.
Chaplain Jon Cutler works out of the Al Asad Iraq air base, where Iraq's only functioning synagogue is located. It serves approximately 100 Jewish soldiers from different bases. Last year, he brought a Torah scroll to the synagogue from San Diego.
