The level of poverty in Israel remained steady in 2007, according to the National Insurance Institute 2007 Poverty Report that was released Sunday morning. Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog (Labor) announced that the report shows "stability with a trend for improvement in the poverty findings."

National Insurance Institute director-general Esther Dominissini noted there was "a slight decrease of poverty" for large families, individuals and children. However, both men decried the relatively high poverty rate, in comparison with other western countries.
