(IsraelNN.com) The best result of the planned Annapolis conference on the Middle Eas is that it "yet may serve us well as an object lesson in how diplomacy--the competent kind--just isn't done," Wall Street Journal editorial board member Bret Stephens wrote Wednesday. Under a headline "The Annapolis fiasco," he belittled the Bush administration for getting itself "caught in the Venus flytrap of the Arab-Israel conflict."

 

--Minister Raleb Majadle cannot be punished for saying that his primary allegiance is to Islam and not to the state of Israel, Knesset Legal Advisor Nurit Elstein has determined. Majadle, speaking before the Knesset on the subject of Temple Mount digs by the Waqf, said: "Before I am a government minister, I am first and foremost a Muslim." He also said: "In case of a discrepancy between the law and my deep faith as a Muslim, I shall know what to choose."

Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Waldenberg passed away in Jerusalem. He was born in Jerusalem in 1917 and was known as the Tzitz Eliezer, for the encyclopedic treatise on Jewish law he authored. Rabbi Waldenberg was a leading judge on Jerusalem’s Supreme Rabbinical Court and the rabbi of the Sha'arei Tzedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he was hospitalized prior to his death.
