(IsraelNN.com) Israel Defense Forces tanks, a bulldozer and a jeep drove half a kilometer into southern Gaza on Tuesday morning, in what the IDF described as a routine operation to uncover explosive devices near the security fence, according to the Associated Press. It was the first Israeli ground action in a week. Residents said they leveled lands along the border, east of the city of Rafah.

The military says no injuries or damage were caused by rockets and mortar shells fired at the vehicles by local terrorists. The tanks did not respond to the fire.
