Attorney Shlomo Deri has registered a new political party known as 'Respect and Tradition-Social National Party.' Shlomo Deri's brother Aryeh Deri, a former high-ranking member of Shas, has neither confirmed nor denied rumors that he is involved in the new party.
Shas sources quoted in Maariv accused the Deri brothers of attempting to pressure Shas to reinstate Aryeh Deri. Deri was forced to leave politics due to a 1999 corruption case in which he was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison.
