The government on Monday is marking the official memorial day for assassinated Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin according to Jewish tradition that marks the day on the Hebrew calendar. President Shimon Peres noted that Rabin was murdered while he was on the way "to lead the State of Israel to the realization of the dream of the nation of Israel over the course of generations - peace for all and security for everyone."
Rabin was in the forefront of the Oslo Peace Accords that eventually exploded into the current eight-year Oslo War that began in 2000. Monday's events conclude "memorial days" that began with the secular day of Rabin's death and continued with the annual Saturday night rally in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv.
This year's speeches were marked by political talks and continuing verbal assaults on the nationalist camp.
