Magen David Adom Signs Pact with Indonesian Counterpart

The Indonesian Rescue and Emergency Organization, run by that nation's second-largest Islamic movement, the reformist Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah (PM), signed a $2000,000 agreement Wednesday night in Tel Aviv with Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service. The PM organization operates dozens of clinics, hospitals, orphanages, schools and universities in Indonesia, and has been recognized by the Indonesian government and by international organizations.

The main points of the agreement concern sharing knowledge in emergency medical services and planning work protocols for the Indonesian health system. The practical and managerial knowledge will be implemented by internationally-recognized MDA specialists. The Indonesians will share their experience in preparing for, and responding to, natural disasters.

The deal was penned in the shadow of serious jihadist threats against Indonesia, which is home to the world's largest Muslim population. For the full story, click here.
