Friction and insulted personalities may be lessening the chance of the academic year opening on Sunday as scheduled for Israel's universities. A representative from the Presidents of Universities told Army Radio, "The universities are down to scrounging for pieces of bread, reduced to standing like beggars on a doorstep. I've never experienced such a thing. Four university presidents standing, discussing with a 28-year-old who just finished university two years ago, and he's telling us how to run the universities."

A meeting between the treasury and representatives of the Higher Education Council and Presidents of the Universities ended in exasperation Wednesday night after just a quarter-hour, with worse than no progress.
