Kadima Member of Knesset Yoel Hasson said Sunday night that his party will present a resolution at Monday's opening of the winter Knesset session to dissolve the Knesset en route to early elections. The chairman of the ruling coalition spoke at the end of a meeting of Kadima, Shas and Likud party representatives with President Shimon Peres, following Kadima leader Tzipi Livni's formal announcement to Peres that she had failed to form a new government in the wake of the resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Livni called for elections in 90 days.
Peres called the meeting in an attempt to find another MK to try and form a new government. Shas chairman Eli Yishai said he also called for new elections and believed Peres would accept Livni's recommendation. Likud faction chairman Gidon Sa'ar and MK Yuval Steinitz also voiced their support for elections.
