Arab media report that United States helicopters based in Iraq killed at least seven people in an attack on a target in the Deir Azour area of Syria on Sunday night. The area is where Israel reportedly destroyed a Syrian nuclear site last year.

The area is also close to the Iraqi border. The US has accused Syria of harboring insurgents fighting against the regime set up by the US and its allies following the defeat of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
