Palestinian Authority Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas announced Tuesday that he would meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for the last time on October 27.
Speaking to reporters in Ramallah on Monday, Abbas said that no progress had been made in talks between Israel and the PA on final status issues, and that "even though there are 12 committees discussing various outstanding issues, we have not reached agreement on any of them." Abbas said he was unwilling to compromise on any of the issues.
Prime Minister Olmert has offered to hand over more than 90 percent of Judea and Samaria, as well as 5 percent of Negev land near Gaza in addition to numerous security concessions. Abbas rejected the plan because it did not include half of Jerusalem and permission for some five million foreign Arab descendants of those who fled Israel during the 1948 war to immigrate in what the PA refers to as "the right of return."
