The Egyptian government has invited Hizbullah chief terrorist Hassan Nasrallah for an official visit to Cairo, according to a report published Tuesday in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar. A date for the talks has not yet been set, however.
Nasrallah has rarely set foot outside his hideout since the 2006 Second Lebanon War, for fear of an Israeli assassination attempt. The newspaper report added that the invitation therefore also included the terrorist group's senior member, who is also Lebanon's Minister of Labor, Muhammed Fneish, to represent the organization.
Allegedly the invitation was issued in order to equalize Egypt's relationship with "all the power centers of Lebanon." Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met recently in Cairo with Druze leader Walid Jumblat, as well as with Samir Geagea, leader of the Christian anti-Syrian "Lebanese Forces" majority faction.
