Israel is planning to allow Palestinian Authority troops to deploy in several cities in Judea and Samaria, according to a report in the Jerusalem Post based on information from “senior defense officials.” Israel has already approved the deployment of troops in Jenin and Hevron, and has allowed PA troops to receive advanced training from United States military officers and to import weapons and armored vehicles.
The next cities to be turned over to PA troops would be Tulkarem, Shechem, and Kalkilya, according to the report. At this point PA troops are fully deployed in Jenin, where IDF officials say they have cracked down on crime but not on local terrorist groups.
