The Israeli Air Force sent two fighter jets to the border with Lebanon and an attack helicopter to the Lebanese border area one hour before the Yom Kippur fast ended on Thursday, after a suspicious aircraft was detected approaching Israeli airspace. The aircraft and ground forces conducted searches of the area near the border and returned to base after the plane turned around and flew back north into Lebanon.
With Hizbullah threatening to attack Israeli targets in revenge for the death of arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, the defense establishment is concerned that the Lebanese terrorist group may send a pilotless aircraft loaded with explosives to crash in Israel. A similar incident occurred in April when the pilot of an Israeli civilian aircraft forgot to coordinate its flight plan with aviation authorities.
