An asteroid hit earth early on Tuesday morning, entering the atmosphere over northern Sudan. The asteroid, which was an estimated three meters wide, created a large fireball.

Most of the asteroid disintegrated on hitting the atmosphere, scientists said, and only small fragments hit the planet's surface. No damage was reported.
